Align the card with the actual workweeks
Choose the date and start day that match the fixed workweek you need to check. The layout displays two seven-day groups, not a flexible 14-day span with one combined overtime threshold. The first period in each day starts with a 30-minute unpaid break, which should be changed when your records differ. Enter completed working periods in the matching dates and leave days off blank. Before comparing totals with payroll, confirm whether the pay-period dates and the employer’s overtime workweek boundaries are actually aligned.
Why 45 hours plus 35 still has overtime
With the default weekly rule, a 45-hour first week contains five hours over 40. A 35-hour second week contains none. Together they total 80 hours, but the five first-week overtime hours do not disappear. Averaging the two weeks into 40 hours each would produce a different and incorrect result for this selected rule. The results panel therefore shows both weekly overtime values beside the combined duration. If the workweek starts on Sunday rather than Monday, set that boundary before interpreting which periods belong to each week.
Walk through a second two-week example
Suppose the first week has five 09:00 to 18:00 periods, each with a 30-minute unpaid lunch. Each day contributes 8.5 hours, giving 42.5 hours for week one. Suppose week two has four eight-hour net days, giving 32 hours. The period total is 74.5 hours, with 2.5 weekly overtime hours in the first week and zero in the second. Check the daily deductions before reading the subtotal; a default lunch left on a day that already excluded lunch would change both the sum and potentially the overtime.
Keep daily and weekly alternatives distinct
Calculation settings also offer daily overtime above eight hours and a combined estimate using the higher of the daily or weekly overtime totals within each week. Combined mode does not add those totals, which would count some time twice. None disables overtime when you only need durations. These choices are arithmetic estimates rather than a complete implementation of any state’s law, exemptions or double-time rules. Confirm the applicable rules independently. Optional rounding affects net daily or overall totals; it does not automatically reproduce an employer’s individual-punch policy.
Read the total and estimate gross pay
The combined duration appears as hours and minutes and as decimal hours. Half an hour is 0.5 hours, so 74 hours thirty minutes displays as 74.50. If you enter one hourly rate, regular minutes use that rate and overtime minutes use the chosen multiplier, initially 1.5. The final gross amount is rounded to cents after the calculation. It excludes taxes, reimbursements, leave and other adjustments. Use separate calculations when different jobs or weeks require rates that cannot be represented by one rate for the whole card.
| Minutes | Decimal hours |
|---|---|
| 15 | 0.25 |
| 20 | 0.33 |
| 30 | 0.50 |
| 45 | 0.75 |
Export both weeks without losing their boundaries
Download CSV includes individual periods, a combined Total row and separate weekly subtotals. The decimal-hours column is numeric, and a separate column keeps the hours-and-minutes format for checking. Copy summary works with spreadsheet rows, while Print provides a readable report. Records stay in this browser without registration. Local saving is useful for returning to the same device, but it is not a backup or an official attendance record. Review incomplete warnings and keep an exported copy when you need a lasting record.
Frequently asked questions
Is biweekly overtime calculated after 80 hours?
Not in the default weekly mode. Hours above 40 are evaluated separately in each fixed workweek. A 45-hour week followed by a 35-hour week has five overtime hours even though the combined total is 80. Align the card’s workweek boundary with the records you intend to check.
What is the result for 42.5 hours and 32 hours?
The combined duration is 74.5 hours. With weekly overtime above 40, the first week contains 2.5 overtime hours and the second contains zero. If you select another overtime mode or apply rounding, the estimate may change. Review the break deductions and chosen rules before using the result for payroll.
Can I download both weeks in one file?
Yes. The CSV includes the period rows, a combined total and separate weekly subtotals. Decimal hours are numeric for spreadsheet calculations, while hours and minutes remain available for checking. When summing rows yourself, exclude the existing Total and subtotal rows so the same hours are not counted again.
What happens if I have not clocked out yet?
An unfinished period is marked incomplete and excluded from the total until both times are valid. Leave the clock-out blank while you confirm the actual ending time. The calculator does not run an attendance timer or guess when you stopped working. Other completed periods continue to count normally.
Can I download the result for a spreadsheet?
Yes. Download CSV gives you individual periods, decimal hours, hours and minutes, and totals. The decimal-hours column contains numbers suitable for spreadsheet calculations. Copy summary produces tab-separated rows for pasting, while Print gives a readable report. Check your times and breaks before using any exported figures for payroll.
Do I need an account, and where are my entries saved?
You do not need an account. Calculations run in your browser, and entries are saved locally on this device rather than uploaded. A full-card sharing link contains the records in its fragment; anyone holding it can read them. Export your own backup before clearing browser storage or switching devices.
