Frequently asked questions

How do I calculate hours worked from a timesheet?

For each working period, subtract clock-in from clock-out, then deduct any unpaid break. Add the completed periods for each day and total the days for the week. This page does that arithmetic for you and shows the same duration as hours and minutes and as decimal hours. Open timesheet calculator.

What is the difference between a time card and a timesheet?

A time card contains individual clock-in and clock-out records; a timesheet summarizes those records into working hours. This page helps you read and convert the original punches. If your main task is preparing a weekly summary rather than reading a card, use our timesheet calculator for that workflow. Open time card calculator.

How do I calculate hours worked from clock-in and clock-out times?

For each completed pair, subtract clock-in from clock-out, then subtract any unpaid break inside that period. Add the resulting periods. If the clock-out time is earlier, it is treated as the next day. Gaps between separate pairs are already excluded, so do not deduct the same lunch again. Open clock in calculator.

Should I enter scheduled hours or actual hours?

Enter the times you actually worked when checking a completed period. Scheduled availability can differ from a real shift because of late starts, early finishes or additional tasks. Confirm unclear records with the appropriate contact rather than filling them with assumed standard hours just to reach a planned weekly total. Open work hours calculator.

Is this connected to my employer’s time clock?

No. You enter times manually, and the calculator does not retrieve or update any employer record. It helps check arithmetic from an existing clock report. Now buttons only fill a local field with the current time; they do not register attendance, notify a manager or create an official punch. Open time clock calculator.

My card has a lunch clock-out and return. Should I deduct lunch again?

No. If you entered the working periods before and after lunch separately, the gap between them is already excluded. Remove any default deduction for that same lunch. Use a break field only for additional unpaid time inside one of the recorded periods, rather than subtracting the gap a second time. Open time card calculator with lunch.

Is lunch deducted from every day automatically?

A 30-minute unpaid break is prefilled for the first period of each day, but nothing is deducted from a blank or unfinished day. Change the amount to match your records, mark it Paid when appropriate, or remove it when separate periods already exclude the lunch. Review each completed day before exporting. Do I need to download an app?

No. The interactive calculator runs in a current browser with JavaScript enabled, and no installer or account is required. It does not provide an installed offline application or employee attendance service. The instructions remain readable without JavaScript, but you need JavaScript for entering periods and seeing calculated totals. Open online timesheet calculator.

Is time between arrival and departure always hours worked?

Not necessarily. That span may contain unpaid breaks or time away, and the legal classification of an activity depends on the circumstances. Enter the working periods you intend to total and specify unpaid breaks inside them. The calculator performs arithmetic from those inputs; it does not determine which activities are compensable. Open hours worked calculator.

Can I check a total from an existing sheet?

Yes. Re-enter the daily clock times and break treatment, then compare the resulting day totals and weekly sum with the source. Check the minute format before comparing rounded decimals. The tool does not import a photograph or interpret handwritten entries, so confirm unclear records before completing the calculation. Open timesheet hours calculator.

Is biweekly overtime calculated after 80 hours?

Not in the default weekly mode. Hours above 40 are evaluated separately in each fixed workweek. A 45-hour week followed by a 35-hour week has five overtime hours even though the combined total is 80. Align the card’s workweek boundary with the records you intend to check. Open biweekly timesheet calculator.

Is CSV export part of the free calculator?

Yes. Download CSV, Copy summary and Print are included without a paid account or trial. You can repeat a calculation and export another checked result without a payment step. Technical card-size safeguards exist for safe browser processing and sharing, but they are not an export subscription or an upgrade requirement. Open free timesheet calculator.

Is 7:30 the same as 7.30 decimal hours?

No. Clock-style 7:30 means seven hours thirty minutes, which is 7.50 decimal hours. Decimal 7.30 means seven hours plus 0.30 of an hour, or eighteen minutes. Use the displayed decimal result for numeric payroll multiplication and keep the hours-and-minutes result when comparing with your original punches. Open time card calculator decimal.

Can this calculator scan a punched card image?

No. You transcribe the times manually from a legible source, keeping each clock-in and clock-out pair together. The calculator does not perform image recognition, authenticate a punch or retrieve employee records from a terminal. Confirm unclear marks and corrections before treating the entered transcription as a finished working-hours record. Open punch clock calculator.

Can my weekly record start on Sunday?

Yes. Choose Sunday in Week starts and verify the date labels for your selected week. Changing the start day preserves recorded calendar dates rather than moving the work to another date. Use the fixed workweek that applies to the record you intend to check, which need not be Monday through Sunday. Open weekly timesheet calculator.
